Burglary Prevention Tips

The Holbrook Police Department recommends the following tips for residents to help deter crime and burglary:

  • Become familiar with your neighbor and form an informal neighborhood watch.
  • Keep shrubbery trimmed around all entrances and walkways
  • Always keep expensive outdoor items stored in the garage or shed
  • Install motion detector lights on your property
  • Install a home security system
  • Always lock all doors and windows when leaving your home
  • Make your home look like it is occupied even when you’re not home
  • Place a piece of wood in the inside track of sliding doors to make them more secure
  • Report any suspicious occurrences in the neighborhood to the police immediately
  • Always lock and secure your vehicle when it is parked, even if you are home
  • Make sure all devices in the vehicle are not visible to the public, including cell phones, GPS, and purses — secure them in the trunk if they must be left in the vehicle
  • Contact the police if you will be away on vacation for an extra watch — fill out this Vacation Watch Registration Form to request that police monitor your property while you’re away for an extended period of time
