HOLBROOK — Chief William Smith reports that, in observation of this Saturday’s parade celebrating the town’s 150th birthday, the Holbrook Police Department will enact multiple road closures in the area.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, road closures will be in place for North Franklin, South Franklin, Union and Plymouth Streets between noon and 4 p.m.
Motorists are asked to avoid driving in the area during the above hours. Signs are also located in the area advising motorists of the road closures.
The Town of Holbrook’s 150th Birthday will be celebrated with a parade on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The parade will begin at the town line on North Franklin Street, will head south through Holbrook Square and onto South Franklin Street, and will end at Holbrook Middle High School on South Franklin Street.
Holbrook was officially founded on Feb. 29, 1872, a leap year day. The day is celebrated every 50 years with a parade and various celebrations.
On April 30, the celebrations began with ceremonial guest attendee Andrew Card, a Holbrook native who served as the White House Chief of Staff under former President George W. Bush, and keynote speaker Tony Price, a noted motivational speaker and coach. The evening also included a gala with special guests and Holbrook native DJ “Fast” Freddy Murphy.
Saturday’s celebration will begin with the old Winthrop Church bells, marching bands and floats traveling down North Franklin Street and passing by the some of the oldest buildings in Holbrook, including the Town Hall and Winthrop Congregational Church.
The parade will end at the Holbrook Middle High School where family-friendly activities will be available at Sumner Field.
