HOLBROOK — Chief David Del Papa reports that the Holbrook Police Department is investigating after a 16-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene Wednesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Sept. 16, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that a 16-year-old girl had been struck by a vehicle in the area of 10 North Shore Road.
The preliminary investigation indicates the girl had been walking home from a nearby bus stop when she saw a vehicle traveling along the shoulder of the road toward her.
The vehicle struck the girl, causing her to roll over the hood before falling to the ground. The vehicle, which was described as only black, then left the area.
The girl was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
A black SUV with its rear hatch open was reported in the area around the time of the incident. Police are still investigating whether that vehicle may have been involved.
Holbrook Police officers and detectives canvassed the area Wednesday and are working to obtain surveillance and doorbell camera footage that may help identify the vehicle and driver.
